    Agricultores Federados Argentinos Sociedad Cooperativa Limitada (AFA S.C.L.) of Argentina member of the ICA since June 2008, principally providing marketing facilitities at the national level and exports cereals, oilseeds and other agricultural and livestock production.  However, it also provides a wide range of services including the supply of agricultural inputs and facilitation of access to credit and financial services including insurance for members, provision of consumer goods for its members and employees; the purchase or leasing agricultural land for research and other activities; construction activities for its members and industries, etc..  AFA also liaises with authorities on member concerns including issues such as rural electrification, infrastructure development and agricultural policy. The society has 25,700 individual members and was responsible for 3.65% of total grain production in Argentina.  It provided 4.45% of the national soy production and 3.06% of wheat production in 2007.     The Centro de Estudios y Capacitación Cooperativa R.L. (CENECOOP) of Costa Rica joined the ICA on 10 July 2008 as an associate member.  It is is an educational institute which develops research and educational programmes for its member, co-operative leaders and employees at a national and international level.     The Co-operative Organization of the Portuguese speaking countries (OCPLP) is organising its 8th meeting at the ICA Expo (October 23/25). The OCPLP is an NGO that gathers co-operatives, associations and other organisations interested in the co-operative movement of all the Portuguese speaking countries  - Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guine-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, St. Tome and Prince, East Timor.

    The OCPLP will gather at the ICA Expo co-operatives that can not afford to have their own booth but wish to participate, specially co-operatives from African countries. The OCPLP will also have a special program on the 24th and 25th of October consisting of - "The fair trade as a tool for the lusophone development" and "Co-operatives in the lusophone world - the challenge of globalization."     ICA Digest 62, July/August 2008 is now available.The issue reports on landmark decisions taken at the ICA Extraordinary General Assembly held in Rome in June. A newly elected board member is welcomed and there are updates on co-operative solidarity for co-operative movements that have suffered from recent disasters.  The digest features an interview to mark this year's International Day of Co-operatives, "Confronting Climate Change through Co-operative Enterprise." Climate change will continue to be reported on in future issues. A number of articles focus on priority areas of work of the ICA, that of ensuring the visibility of co-operatives, defending the form of enterprise and promoting co-operatives worldwide. Articles on the advocacy work of the ICA at the ILO and European Union are included. The work undertaken of the regions to ensure appropriate co-operative policies is also highlighted and reports from Africa show the revival of the ICA Africa and its activities.

    Co-operative Development Scotland (CD:S) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Scottish Enterprise, charged with supporting the growth of sustainable co-operative businesses the length and breadth of Scotland. partnership working with other key players in economic development and co-operative development including Co-ops UK, ICA, Scottish enterprise, Scottish Government, Business gateway and the Local Authorities will be an important part of the role to ensure co-ordination of support to businesses.

    As a subsidiary of Scottish Enterprise, the Chief Executive will provide leadership to CD:5, raising awareness of the co-operative business model in Scotland and delivering its challenging business plan. The Chief Executive will seek input and guidance from the CD:S Advisory Board on relevant issues on policy and priorities, and at the same time have the responsibility and accountability for the operations of the organisation.

    The successful candidate will require effective communication skills and the ability to interact with senior management and board level, senior management experience in economic sdevelopment combined with a track record of delivery. Strong analytical and leadership skills, with the ability to drive a culture of delivery and high performance within the team are all key attributes required to succeed in this post. Equally, an understanding of co-operative enterprises is desirable as is an understanding of the business support infrastructure in Scotland.
